Philanthropy & Successful Family Wealth Transfer

Preparing People, Relationships & Generations for the Legacy They Will Carry
Co-Founded by William Tate & Sarah Elkins

Successful family wealth transfer is about more than transferring financial assets.
It is about preparing the people who will receive and steward them, strengthening the relationships surrounding them, cultivating meaningful communication between generations, and creating a shared understanding of the purpose, responsibility, freedom, and possibilities that prosperity can provide.
Families may spend decades building, protecting, and preparing financial wealth for future generations while having far fewer opportunities to intentionally prepare the human beings who will carry that legacy forward.

Philanthropy & Successful Family Wealth Transfer (PSFT) brings the human dimension into the legacy conversation.
Our work supports individuals, couples, families, beneficiaries, and rising generations in exploring the relational, emotional, personal, philanthropic, and purpose-centered dimensions of prosperity, stewardship, and generational transition.
The intention is not simply to help wealth successfully change hands. It is to help wisdom, values, purpose, connection, and stewardship travel with it.

WEALTH IS MORE THAN FINANCIAL
We believe wealth is greater than financial assets alone. A family’s wealth can also be found in its relationships, wisdom, experiences, values, creativity, emotional well-being, spiritual foundation, sense of purpose, and capacity to positively impact the lives of others. Financial wealth is part of the legacy. It is not the entirety of the legacy. Successful wealth transfer invites us to ask not only:
What financial resources will we pass forward? But also:
What kind of wealth are we cultivating and passing from one generation to the next?

THE 5 TO THRIVE
At the heart of our work are the 5 to Thrive Core Principles — five interconnected areas that invite families to expand what prosperity and successful generational wealth can mean.

PURPOSE : Wealth can create opportunity, but purpose gives that opportunity direction — helping individuals and families explore what matters, how they want to live, and what they want their prosperity to make possible.
PHILANTHROPY: Giving becomes more than a financial transaction when families experience contribution together, discover shared values, and participate in creating meaningful impact.
SIMPLICITY: Prosperity can create greater freedom rather than greater complexity when wealth is intentionally aligned with the life, relationships, experiences, and priorities that matter most.
SHARED EXPERIENCES: Time together, stories, travel, laughter, adventure, conversation, and presence create a form of wealth that cannot be transferred through an estate.
INSPIRED WISDOM & WEALTH TRANSFER: Successful wealth transfer means preparing more than the assets. It means helping prepare the people who will one day steward them.

THE HUMAN SIDE OF LEGACY

Every family has its own history, relationships, communication patterns, values, expectations, hopes, and unspoken dynamics.
Transitions involving wealth, inheritance, leadership, aging, philanthropy, or changing responsibilities can bring many of these dynamics to the surface.
Our work creates intentional space to explore them before, during, and throughout generational transitions.
This may include:
Strengthening communication and understanding between generations
Preparing beneficiaries and rising generations for greater responsibility
Navigating family dynamics, changing roles, and differing expectations
Developing emotional intelligence, self-awareness, and healthier communication
Exploring individual and shared family values
Creating healthier relationships with money, prosperity, inheritance, and stewardship
Supporting personal identity and purpose beyond family wealth or accomplishments
Preserving stories, wisdom, values, and lived experience across generations
Exploring philanthropy and meaningful contribution
Creating greater connection between family members

Receiving wealth does not automatically prepare someone to steward it.
Preparation can include financial education, but it can also include confidence, emotional maturity, communication, personal responsibility, purpose, self-awareness, and developing a healthy relationship with prosperity.

We create space for rising generations to explore questions such as:
Who am I apart from my family’s wealth or accomplishments?
What matters to me?
How do I honor what came before me while becoming fully myself?
What responsibilities accompany the opportunities I have been given?
What do I want my contribution to the world to be?

The goal is not for every family member to think or live the same way.
It is to strengthen the capacity to communicate through differences while preserving respect, connection, individuality, and a shared understanding of what matters.

HOW WE CAN WORK TOGETHER

There is no single formula for a thriving family legacy. Our offerings can be thoughtfully designed around the people involved, the family’s current season, and the conversations, experiences, or transitions that matter most.

Family Dynamics & Communication
Strengthening understanding, navigating differences, changing roles, and cultivating healthier communication across generations.

Beneficiary & Rising-Generation Preparation
Supporting the awareness, emotional preparedness, confidence, purpose, and responsibility that can accompany inherited opportunity.

Purpose & Personal Identity
Exploring who an individual is beyond family expectations, financial identity, accomplishments, or inherited roles.

Emotional Intelligence & Embodied Leadership
Developing greater awareness of emotions, communication patterns, presence, personal responsibility, and the capacity to lead from within.

Philanthropy & Meaningful Contribution
Exploring shared values, causes, family giving, community engagement, and ways prosperity can create meaningful impact.

Legacy & Generational Wisdom
Creating opportunities for stories, wisdom, values, intentions, hopes, and lived experiences to move between generations.

Life & Wealth Transitions
Providing supportive conversation and facilitation as responsibilities, relationships, leadership, stewardship, or family structures change.
Offerings may take the form of private conversations, family sessions, facilitated gatherings, workshops, rising-generation experiences, retreats, philanthropic experiences, meaningful travel, or ongoing support.

MEANINGFUL FAMILY EXPERIENCES & LEGACY RETREATS

Don’t Only Transfer the Legacy. Live It Together.
Some of the most meaningful wealth a family can share is time, experience, connection, memories, and impact created together. We support families in creating intentional experiences around what matters to them. That may mean reconnecting, traveling somewhere meaningful, having fun together, celebrating a milestone, exploring family history, creating new traditions, serving together, experiencing another culture, spending time in nature, or simply stepping outside everyday responsibilities long enough to genuinely enjoy one another again.

Experiences may include:
Family Retreats • Meaningful Travel • Destination Gatherings • Intergenerational Adventures • Philanthropic Experiences • Service & Impact • Cultural Experiences • Family Storytelling • Creative Experiences • Celebrations

The experience can be designed around questions such as:
What would bring our family closer?
What have we always wanted to experience together?
What would simply be fun for us to do together?
What stories and wisdom do we want to share while we have the opportunity?
Where could we serve, give, or make an impact together?
What memories would we love future generations to continue talking about?

An experience might combine relaxation and recreation with family conversation, storytelling, adventure, creativity, philanthropy, service, cultural exploration, or simply intentional time together. Because enjoying the prosperity a family has created can also be part of honoring it. Legacy does not have to be something a family waits to leave behind. It can be something we experience, enjoy, create, and contribute together while we are here.

MORE THAN WEALTH TRANSFER
The 5 to Thrive invites families to consider a larger question:
What would it look like not simply for our financial wealth to survive across generations, but for our family to thrive across generations?
Imagine a legacy in which future generations inherit not only financial resources, but also:
Wisdom • Purpose • Stories • Values • Connection • Experiences • Responsibility • Possibility
True legacy is not simply what we leave behind.
It is what we embody, cultivate, share, experience together, and awaken within others while we are here.

BEGIN THE CONVERSATION

Every family, individual, and season of transition is different.
Rather than beginning with a predetermined program, we begin with conversation.
If you are exploring how to better prepare yourself, your family, or the generations ahead for the human side of wealth, prosperity, philanthropy, and legacy, I invite you to connect with me.
Together, we can explore where you or your family are now, what matters most, what conversations may be ready to happen, what experiences you would like to create together, and where greater communication, preparation, connection, or support could be valuable.
From there, we can explore what kind of experience or ongoing engagement would best serve the individuals and generations involved.
I also welcome conversations with family offices, wealth advisors, estate-planning professionals, philanthropic organizations, foundations, and other professionals interested in bringing the human and relational dimensions of legacy into the work they are already doing with individuals and families.
